Even though he was second, there was still so much to learn!
You guys.. yeah it’s been a minute since I strapped a baby bundle into an infant car seat, making sure itwas installed properly so that it and the car acted as one in a symphony of safety.
It’s been a minute and a a lot has changed.
That’s a really good thing.
In conjunction with Car Seat Safety Month, Britax the industry leader in quality and safety, is reminding us all (even us “old heads”) about the importantance of making sure this is all done right.
Why is this important? The statistics are sobering.
- Every 33 seconds, one child under the age of 13 is involved in a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
- Road injuries are the leading cause of unintentional deaths to children in the United States.
- Of those children ages 8 and under who died in vehicle crashes in 2014, 26 percent were not restrained by an age-appropriate device such as an infant seat, booster seat or seat belt.
- Children should ride in a vehicle back seat until they are at least 13 years old.
Wow.
Let’s go back for a minute. When Casey and Cole were young, the car seat installation was a hassle. I remember making sure it would click when the seat attached to the base. But even then I had my doubts. Was the belt tight enough to keep the seat in place if we had to stop suddenly or worse, got hit by someone?
All of that uncertainty (and I know I am not alone) is about to be cleared up in a major way courtesy Britax, She Buys Cars and Lexus.
I am going to be taking part in a live event at Lexus of Mt. Kisco (New York), where a passenger safety technician will be there to answer all those nagging questions and dispel fears about proper car seat installation. I will share all the good stuff on Facebook live where I will be broadcasting from the Mt. Kisco Lexus dealership for the Britax #TestDriveParenthood event so have your questions ready.
