Good Enough Mother Approved: Finding My @TargetStyle !

(Disclosure: I was chosen to be part of a campaign for Target through Mode Media. Though I was compensated for this post, all opinions are my own. And I am totally digging the swimwear!)

A couple of years ago, I ran across an article that was talking about women and swimsuits. It wasn’t a new piece; these seem to crop up every couple of years. At any rate, it was one of those, “women should stop wearing swimsuits after a certain age” type pieces. I remember thinking at the time.. Um.. WHY?

As a “woman of a certain age” I found the statement disheartening. Is there an age-limit on fun? In my mind, and in my life, the answer is a resounding NO! I’m turning 53 years old this month. Last year, I made a big commitment to myself; I was not going to age gracefully. I was going to attack it with abandon.. and I have.

I started taking better care of myself and began training for obstacle races. If I can jump over fire, I sure as heck can wear a bathing suit on the beach. I’m teaming up with Target because they, too, believe that there should be no reservations, just fun when it comes to swimsuits. #NOFOMO is the rallying cry and I’m right there with them! I have 4 criteria when buying swimwear: Fit, Style, Comfort and Affordability.

  1. FIT: As many of you know, I had a double mastectomy a few years back. While I had reconstruction, I am a little more reserved about the bathing suit tops I choose to wear. I like them to fit well with ample coverage. That’s why I chose this Tankini top  which I paired with the strappy hipster bikini bottom  for a versatile look. I like Tankinis because they’re more forgiving than a regular bikini but are not a traditional one-piece. FUN!

  1. STYLE: Look, I’m not the most stylish person but even I want to look good. The thing is, I want to look good without spending half the day in my closet, accessorizing and planning. I guess you could say I’m something of a minimalist. That’s why the Women’s Draped One Piece by Merona works for me. I fell in love with the simple, understated elegance of this black one-piece. It makes me feel covered and comfortable both in and out of the water.

  1. COMFORT:  Hey, hey now.. this is why I’m never gonna stop wearing a bathing suit. I LOVE the water! I love to swim. I love water sports.. I love it all. So I am always on the lookout for swimwear that is, above all, comfortable. Again, the Women’s Draped One Piece totally fills the bill. I’m totally in the dressing room, bending over, lifting my arms and in general, jumping around like a crazy woman to make sure it didn’t pinch or pull on me. Mission accomplished. But you don’t even need to do all that. Target offers free shipping and free returns so you can try on in the comfort of your own home!

  1. AFFORDABILITY: And lastly, the best fit of all needs to be the one with my wallet! I bought an entire wardrobe of swimwear for less than 125 dollars and that included a cover up because I used Target’s Cartwheel App for additional savings!

So now. Summer.. BRING.IT.ON! I’m decked out in comfortable swimwear that didn’t break my budget. And this summer, I’m going to revisit one of my favorite water sports.. Water Skiing! I promise to share snaps on my Instagram.

Yep.. No reservations and #NOFOMO for me.. just fun.. Good Enough Mother and #TargetStyle!

What about you.. what does #NOFOMO mean to you? How do you feel about bathing suit shopping? What are your reservations and how will you get past them?

Whatever they may be, make sure to find your style @targetstyle!
