GEMs Of Beauty: Korean Skin Care

GEMs Of Beauty:

Korean Skin Care

Now that you’ve become a sheet-mask convert after reading my January column (yes, I know you are!), allow me to introduce you to some of the wonders of K-Beauty, otherwise known as Korean skincare. The geniuses over there invented BB cream, for starters, and are known for their innovative creativity because the women there are obsessed with skincare, and they demand results. And while some Korean skincare addicts spend way too much time every day going through complicated routines, most women don’t. They just use some of these truly amazing products and easily get the glow. I’ve chosen a few of the most unusual to entice you to do the same:

1. J. ONE JELLY PACK

One of my favorite new products, this is a firming gel that you apply at night to cleansed skin, let it work its magic, then wash it off in the morning. Trust me—you are going to see results. It’s my new go-to treatment for crepey neck skin, which is always tough to deal with. You can also use it as a primer, either alone or with a light foundation on top.

2. WHAMISA OLIVE LEAF MIST

Another incredibly innovative product is this super-hydrating mist that contains absolutely no water! Instead, it’s made from olive and green tea extracts, and aloe vera. I don’t know how they did it, but it leaves your skin dewy, hydrated, and smelling fresh and sweet.

3. BLITHE TUNDRA CHAGA PRESSED SERUM

Banish winter-parched skin with this superlative pressed serum—making it thicker than most serums, and more like a serum/moisturizer hybrid—made from extracts from chaga mushroom that grow only on tundras, blended with fermented natural oils. It will leave your skin baby-soft.

4. AMOREPACIFIC COLOR CONTROL CUSHION COMPACT,
SULWHASOO PERFECTING CUSHION and HERA UV MIST CUSHION

I’ve never been much of a foundation fan, and as I’ve gotten older I rarely use it as even the most moisturizing brands tend to highlight pores and wrinkles—I much prefer to use only a primer and perhaps a bit of tinted moisturizer mixed with regular moisturizer to make it more transparent. But now I’m a foundation convert thanks to the brilliance of these cushion compacts, invented by AmorePacific. They’re a BB hybrid with coverage, moisture, and SPF50+, and they glide on like a dream. Plus they look glam in your handbag.

5. TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL DINOPLATZ MAGIC WAND
FOR LIP & EYE MAKEUP REMOVER

Don’t you hate when you’ve carefully applied your eye makeup, only to see those annoying black dots of mascara, or smudges, or flakes of color a few seconds later? Not a good look. These genius wands are like Q-tips with the makeup remover already inside—just twist and apply. Perfect for traveling, too.

Remember–there are a gazillion skincare brands out there, and there’s no need to get stuck in a product rut and be afraid to try something new. I was hesitant about K-Beauty at first, having read articles about the complicated routines and multiple products some women like to use, which I think is nothing but hype (no one needs 10 different products!) and often counterproductive (for your skin as well as for your bank account), but this former skeptic is now a true believer. The products I tested had outstanding results.

Combing the aisles at Target in search of the best deal on Cheerios, it hit Rene Syler like the stench of a dirty diaper on a hot summer’s day. Not only is perfection overrated its utterly impossible! Suddenly empowered, she figuratively donned her cape, scooped up another taco kit for dinner and Good Enough Mother was born.
