Correct A BIG Mistake! (VIDEO)

Hey all! Happy Monday!

Well the Twitterverse and my Facebook timeline are filled with this story.

Radio and TV Personality Steve Harvey was the host of the 2015 Miss Universe pageant. By all accounts he did a great job.. right up until the end when he, on accident, announced the wrong winner!

Steve Harvey posted this on his Facebook page:

Oh man. Now what? If you go back and look at the tape, not for the OMG factor but from a crisis-control, stand up kinda guy place, you can see there are teachable moments for us all.

Assume responsibility handwritten on school blackboard

First and foremost you have to accept responsibility for your actions and that is exactly what Steve did. He stood there on stage and before millions of people and accepted complete responsibility. It takes a big person to do that.

I'm sorry letter in blue envelope

You can’t unring a bell but you can at least try to remedy the situation. The next best thing after accepting responsibility is saying sorry and MEANING it. You could tell by Steve’s face, and the things he has done afterward, that he is truly sorry for the mistake.  I don’t think anyone thinks there was a sinister motive; just a horrible blunder on live TV.

keep moving

This is the part that will be difficult but not impossible. The fact is thanks to the Internet and video, things like this stay around forever, and ever and ever. But thanks to social media, they burn hot and fast and then everyone moves on. It might be a couple of uncomfortable days for Steve but eventually, we will forget (well, everyone except Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines) and move on to something else.

This was a big mistake.. but Steve handled it the best way he could and provided lessons in the process.

I think he handled it very well during the mistake and right after at the press conference. I also blame the producers as the actual card was very confusing. Let’s take a page out of the Oscars and list each winner on a separate card with BIG BOLD print and give it to the host one at a time… So what if 3 index cards are used. I think the pageant can afford it. OR How bout we use a good old fashioned teleprompter? I’m saying…this is 2015 pageant people!
