Good Enough Mother: Why I Am An X Out Mom!

Why I Am An X Out Mom!

(Disclosure: As part of the X Out mom ambassador, I received compensation and product for this post. All opinions are my own.. and those of my son!)

Something very strange has been going on in my house. The other day, my son, Cole, brought down two huge bags of trash from his room without any prompting from me. When I went into the room (that I could barely get in a few months ago) the clothes were in neat piles on his bed (come on now, you didn’t think I was going to say folded or hung in the closet, did you?).

Whoa.

The clean room has extended to personal hygiene, I am happy to report and because of that we’ve been looking for some sort of cleanser/treatment that will keep Cole’s skin smooth and as acne free as possible.

So when the folks at Guthy-Renker (makers of Proactiv) asked me to test their X Out™ Wash-In Treatment for acne, I had the perfect guinea pig.

As I mentioned, Cole has taken newfound interest in his looks and appearance so getting him to try this product was fairly easy. But I also had an ulterior motive; when I was younger, I suffered from cystic acne. The breakouts were severe enough to require a dermatologist’s care and left me scarred. Sadly both my daughter and son suffer from the same condition and “DON’T PICK” is my contact refrain.

Now, X Out™ Wash-In Treatment; Cole and I decided to give it a go. We used it as recommended, twice a day (morning and night) and used on a couple of tough spots that looked like they were on the verge of becoming very “angry”.

Here are photos of our results:

DAY 1:

Okay props for me for getting him to smile! Anyway, here’s what we are working with. Cole’s skin is somewhat clear but he’s got quite a bit of acne on his forehead, nose and chin, the so-called T-zone. We used X Out™ Wash-In Treatment that morning and then again at night as recommended.

DAY 2:

Here is Cole after day 2. I already saw a difference in his forehead which looked smoother and the bumps on his cheek had gone down a lot too. That’s important for him because shaving is hard when he’s broken out. We also spot treated a couple of areas on his face where the bumps were pronounced.

DAY 3:

Day 3 and we’re looking GOOD! Again, I notice the forehead especially; it looked even smoother than the night before. But I also saw that the area where we spot treated was less swollen and red. Those bumps, which typically take a week or more to go away, were well on their way to being gone for good.

According to the company, “The X Out ‘Wash-In Treatment’ uses prescription-grade 8.5% Benzoyl Peroxide to cleanse deep into pores and stays there all day to help clear acne and start killing breakout-causing bacteria on contact, even after you wash it off. The Wash-In Treatment also contains a moisturizing complex that contains multiple hydrating ingredients. This easy to use one-step product is meant to be used daily but can also be used as a leave on overnight spot treatment or a 10-minute mask. After each Wash-In, users will experience a blast of icy cool.”

But the ultimate endorsement came from the (hard-to-please) teenager himself who said the product was easy to use and he loved the way his skin felt after rinsing, no doubt due to the mild antiseptic of menthol. Suitable for all skin types, the thing Cole liked was that it scrubbed (17-year-old boy speak for exfoliated) his skin without leaving it feeling super dry.

There is a larger issue here. Teens, even the tough ones, can be sensitive. As his mother, my job is to help Cole be as self-confident as he can be. I definitely notice a little more swagger in his walk when he’s not worried about how his skin looks.

Good Enough Mother and her son give X Out a grade A for performance!

Not only is perfection overrated its utterly impossible! Suddenly empowered, she figuratively donned her cape, scooped up another taco kit for dinner and Good Enough Mother was born.
