Single Mom Slice of Life:
5 Parenting Battlefields That Changed
As My Kids Grew Older

A lot of years have gone by since I started writing Single Mom Slice of Life, and a lot of my views have changed. So in case you’ve stayed with me throughout the years, I give to you, in no particular order, updated five battlefields in single parenthood that I learned from… won… or just gave up on all together.

4. Equal Vs. Equitable

They are NOT the same thing. The most literal example I can provide would be chores. I at one point, split the house down the middle and announced, "You get the front half of the house - the living room, kitchen, dining room. You get the back half, the hallway, bathrooms, bedrooms and my room." It's equal, but it is not equitable. The bathrooms take longer than the kitchen, and the dining room Isn't really a room because we stopped using the table years ago. So really, emptying the dishwasher and sweeping the floor is not the same as cleaning the bathrooms... and did you read my first point about clean rooms, oh, and don't get me started on cleaning the dog poop in the backyard. No, we use a more helpful, "we all clean all the rooms - except bedrooms - at the same time" option now.
