GEMs Of Beauty – New Year, New You!
8 Luscious Skin Treatments For Winter

Welcome, 2015! We’ve made our resolutions, and if you’re like me, we’ve already broken them! (I should know better than to resolve to eat less chocolate and swear less, right?) But there a few beauty resolutions I never break—sunscreen every day, never going to bed without cleansing my face and removing all makeup, slathering the cream on everywhere because my skin is so dry, no products with phthalates or sulfates–which makes me feel so proud of myself that I can run right out and score some more chocolate. These items ought to help you keep your resolutions (and your skin nice and moist) for a New Year, New You, too:

H20+ Oasis 24

Don’t let winter turn your skin all flaky and parched. H20 has concocted a fabulous moisture booster loaded with marine extracts—it amplifies whatever regular moisturizer you regularly use. Simply apply it after your cleanse your face, and then apply your moisturizer. Your skin will thank you.

Peter Thomas Roth Cucumber
De-Tox Hydrating Serum

Another great way to plump up your skin is with this cucumber-rich serum. It’s especially soothing and hydrating, and it’s great to use after you’ve spent the afternoon watching the kids skating or skiing or sledding—winter fun, to be sure, but terrible for your wind-roughened cheeks!

Pravana Nevo Detox
Clarifying Shampoo

Your hair needs a good detox just as your skin does, and this shampoo is especially good at removing build-up, residue, and impurities without stripping away any moisture. Alternate using this with your regular shampoo. It’s also an ideal prep before any color treatments.

Strivectin TL Advanced
Tightening Neck Cream

If you loved the late Nora Ephron’s book, I Feel Bad About My Neck, as much as I did, then you’ll especially appreciate this new neck cream, which helps improve the appearance of the crepey kind of skin that Nora didn’t want to talk about (and I don’t either)! A little goes a long way, too.

Vita Coco Coconut Oil

One of the most hydrating and least expensive ways to get that necessary moisture is with this oil that is good enough to eat. Vita Coco is well-known for its delicious and nutritious coconut water, and now you can use their 100 percent raw, extra-virgin, cold-pressed, organic coconut oil for cooking–and for your skin and hair, too. It’s solid at room temperature, so rub it on your nails and hands, and as it warms from your body heat it’s easy to apply everywhere. You can also use it as a hair mask and let it soak in for up to an hour before shampooing. Even if a blizzard is howling it’ll still make you feel like you’re basking on a beach.

Bonus Treatment –
Viora Reaction Skin Tightening

If the holiday elves gave you an extra bonus and you want to splurge, you might want to investigate Viora. It’s a radio frequency-based skin-tightening treatment that takes place over the course of 6-8 treatments, with biannual maintenance afterwards. It’s ideal for needle-phobics (if you were considering getting a filler) as it’s completely painless and there’s no downtime afterward (the procedure takes about 20 minutes). You can read more about it here if you’re interested in a treatment for your face or body (for cellulite or post-childbirth), and find a physician or salon which does it near you: I had a treatment done at the gorgeous Julien Farel salon in NYC ( and I went in a skeptic and came out very impressed!

Remember: Your key word this month is Hydration. You need to do whatever you can to keep your skin and hair moist. Look for products that lock in moisture and reapply as often as necessary. Always slather on a generous layer of a moisturizing cream before you leave the house if the weather is cold and windy . Keep the gloves and hats handy. I also keep hand cream and lip balm stashed all over the place so I don’t forget to use them, too.

What about you? What’s your, “New Year, New You” favorite product?
