Survivor Stories 2014:
1. How did you first find out you had cancer?
I got a call in my car from my Oncologist and he told me I needed, surgery, chemo, radiation and then a second surgery all in one breath.
2. How did you react when you heard the news?
I decided in that moment to just get the cancer out of me and do whatever I had to do to live for my kids.
3. What course of treatment were you prescribed?
First mastectomy, then 6 treatments of chemo, then radiation and then surgery to remove the other breast.
4. What most surprised you about your treatment?
What a nicely shaped head I had with no hair and how I could not understand wearing a wig for months. It was so hot under that hair! Also, how horribly hideous having one boob was looking at in the mirror.
5. What would your advice be to anyone who’s just received a cancer diagnosis?
Pick yourself up and get through it and change your path or it will come back. Understand that it is a life lesson that you need to pay attention to. You cannot go back to your old ways of living and thinking.
6. How long have you been cancer free?
7. What lessons did you learn from the experience?
How strong I was and how SURRENDERING was the way I was going to live my life from then on. No more trying to make things happen but rather moving forward using right action and allowing the good to come to me.
8. If you could send one message to all the Good Enough Mothers out there – what would it be?
Be grateful for the lesson you have been given and know that you can get through it. Understand it is here to teach you and pay attention to the lessons along the way.
An eleven year survivor of breast cancer, Audrey experienced first hand the debilitating effects which chemotherapy, radical surgeries and long term radiation have on the body. On her journey to recovery, Audrey was overwhelmed by the expense of the nutritious foods she needed to help her heal. To get a discount to afford those foods, she took a job at a local health food store. While her body was still dealing with all the negative effects of her treatments, she worked long hours at a painful and often emotionally draining job just to be able to eat healthily.
To make her journey even more difficult, Audrey struggled to eliminate many foods to which her body had built intolerance after cancer treatment. She decided from that time on to create foods, using only the highest quality ingredients that people could afford and enjoy. She researched superfoods and high antioxidant foods and learned about their many attributes to help prevent and heal many diseases.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education from Cal State Northridge, Audrey understands the physical needs of the body. She has adapted her education and applied it to what she learned about the nutritional elements of raw foods. Audrey is on a mission to convey the power of superfoods in the prevention of cancers as she blazes her own path to healing through the creation of her products at EarthSource Organics.
