Hot Summer Reads for Teens

Summer is a great time for kids to catch up on their reading! Teens especially seem to only want to sleep all day and then park themselves in front of their electronic devices in between meals. If you present them, however, with some hot summer reads, you might get their attention for longer than the 5 minutes it takes them to devour their food.

If you’re looking for a great read for yourself, you can share the excitement of these books with your teen. Don’t be put off by the Young Adult genre; it’s one of the best genres out there right now.  There is no better way to spend quality time with your teen than laughing, sharing, and crying over a great book.  Here are a few that I think are special.

4. The Killing Woods By Lucy Christopher

The Killing Woods by Lucy Christopher is my wildcard pick.  Wildcard because I think you will either love it or hate it. If you like to be creeped out by psychological thrillers then this is the book for you. Christopher tends to write about the darker incidents that happen to teens, which many teens enjoy.

Emily’s dad is accused of murdering a teenage girl. Emily is sure he is innocent, but what happened that night in the woods behind their house where she used to play as a child? Determined to find out, she seeks out Damon Hillary, the enigmatic boyfriend of the murdered girl. He also knows these woods. Maybe they could help each other. But he’s got secrets of his own about games that are played in the dark.

The Killing Woods just might be the Gone Girl (NOT a YA novel) for teens. As always, judge for yourself and tell me what you think.

Summer is a great time to try new books so I'll be bringing suggestions to you each month. I'm always up for a little romance during the summer, but I also like to try something I've never read before. I might even try a little Science Fiction this summer, what about you?

Combing the aisles at Target in search of the best deal on Cheerios, it hit Rene Syler like the stench of a dirty diaper on a hot summer’s day. Not only is perfection overrated its utterly impossible! Suddenly empowered, she figuratively donned her cape, scooped up another taco kit for dinner and Good Enough Mother was born.
