GEMs Of Beauty:
Remember the good ol’ days when you could slap any kind of moisturizer on your skin, run out the door, and still look great (as in wrinkle-free, crevasse-free, pore-free, and blotch-free)? I’m thrilled for you if you can remember, because I’m approaching the Jurassic era and can’t remember what I did five minutes ago, much less when I was prancing around in my more dewy-skinned younger years.
Kidding aside, when you’re a mom and especially when you’re a mom of a certain age (over 29+ and no cheating!), your skin needs extra help. A simple moisturizer isn’t going to be enough anymore. You need a serum.
Serums are not moisturizers. They may have moisturizing properties, but they all have specific functions, as you’ll see in the following list. They are more concentrated than your other skincare products, which makes them pricier, but you only need a little bit—and a little bit goes a very long way. (Applying more of a serum will not give you more results.) Choose a serum that matches your skincare needs and use it faithfully, and you really should see results. They’re especially great for sun-damaged or aging skin.
Just remember that because serums are not moisturizers, they should never be used on their own, unless you have extremely oily skin, or they’ll just evaporate—and you’ll be wasting your money and your time. Apply a few drops all over your face (many serums come with droppers), pat in gently, wait a minute or so for the serum to sink in, and then apply your regular sunscreen (in the morning) or moisturizer (at night) on top and you’re good to go.
