Life Lessons:
Patricia Dorton

*Are you happy at the moment?

I am extremely happy with my life! I just want more of what I already have. Abundance of all good things!

*If you could go back and say anything to your 16-year-old self now – what would it be?

Never stop dreaming and believing in yourself. Your attitude towards situations can change the outcome. We must learn to appreciate, love and enjoy the life we have been given.

*What’s the most important thing you’ve learned this year?

I have learned how important it is to be grateful and thankful for everything always!

*What do you most want to achieve in the next 12 months?

To see the product we have been working on for the last 5 years in pet stores though out the world! The k9kwencher. I also want to see our fitness product begin to hit the market!

*What’s your secret to happiness?

It is amazing how happy one can be when you acknowledge how thankful you are for all that you currently have been given. You will continue to be given even more to be thankful for! Focus on the positive and always try to find the good in all things no matter how hard it may be. All this is a daily job, but worth it!

*What one ritual or practice keeps you grounded?

Saying 100 thank you a day and more! I find 10 things a day to be thankful for. I spend 30 minutes in the morning before I start my day praying/meditating/daydreaming…..whatever works.

*What’s your biggest regret?

I believe that all life lessons can’t be viewed as regret; however my biggest regret is that it took me many years to figure this out.

*What’s the most important lesson you’ve taught your kid(s)?

Never to give up and press forward for what they want. To accept responsibility and never shift the blame on others.

*What bad habit would you most like to change about yourself?

I use the F— word a lot and I need to stop!

*Aside from motherhood/fatherhood and marriage what are you most proud of in your life?

Overcoming many of the challenges that were placed in my life this far! Success in my career and raising my children on my own for the past 7 years.

*When were you happiest?

There wasn’t one particular time. Our life grows in stages and with that comes many happy times. When my children were younger it was a wonderful time, however I certainly couldn’t see myself doing that again in the stage of my life I am now. I do know that we have to choose to be happy and sometimes that’s not easy!

*What ten words best describe you?

I decided to ask my friends what best described me…… Strong, smart, a leader, a good listener, spiritual, loving, caring, determined, beautiful, funny and passionate about what I do and believe in. I’ll go with it!

Combing the aisles at Target in search of the best deal on Cheerios, it hit Rene Syler like the stench of a dirty diaper on a hot summer’s day. Not only is perfection overrated its utterly impossible! Suddenly empowered, she figuratively donned her cape, scooped up another taco kit for dinner and Good Enough Mother was born.
