*Are you happy at the moment?
Yes, very happy!
*If you could go back and say anything to your 16-year-old self now – what would it be?
If I could go back in time, I would tell my younger self to be patient and enjoy life as it happens. I was so anxious to grow up and thought I was prepared to handle adult responsibilities. I would tell myself to enjoy high school and don’t worry so much about what others think of you, but care more about what you think of yourself. When you truly love yourself, that love shines through and others will gravitate in your way.
*What’s the most important thing you’ve learned this year?
I have learned to respect myself. When you don’t respect yourself then it is easy to be taken advantage of in business and in your personal life. When we lose respect for ourselves then it makes it easier to accept bad behavior from others around us. If we have self worth and self respect, we will not accept mistreatment from others and likely won’t mistreat others either.
*What do you most want to achieve in the next 12 months?
I would like to reach as many people as possible and teach them the true value of being healthy and feeling great about you. It is never too late to begin ones true journey into health and adopt a new lifestyle living. It’s been a challenge for me for over a decade but truly understand the meaning of health and fitness. What it can do to save your life as well as the ones we love most! Our next generation depends on it.
*What’s your secret to happiness?
My secret to happiness is to remain true to myself. When we don’t we are only hurting ourselves. Every time we are not true to ourselves we lose self respect for ourselves. This opens the door to an unhealthy lifestyle. This allows the bad to invade our thoughts and minds and in turn open us up to neglecting ourselves and thus vulnerable to unhealthy things and self neglect.
*What one ritual or practice keeps you grounded?
I exercise almost daily. It is the one thing I do routinely and almost religiously. I have surrounded myself with healthy and fit individuals that keep me on track. I exercise on days when I am feeling down or even a little under the weather too. My fitness routine has become my lifestyle living! This in turn helps my eating habits and keeps me on track with healthy food choices.
*What’s your biggest regret?
My biggest regret is neglecting myself for more than 13 years and allowing myself to gain and lose over 500 pounds during that time. By neglecting myself for all of those years I in turn found it difficult to teach my kids properly about good nutrition and fitness and was responsible for allowing my daughter to become obese as well. My low self esteem and lack of self worth made it ok for me to neglect my marriage and in essence allowed bad things to happen between my husband and myself for many years. I have learned when one does not take care of them, it is impossible to take care of others!
*What’s the most important lesson you’ve taught your kid(s)?
I have taught my kids to always eat right and exercise regularly. When we take care of ourselves on a regular basis and we treat our bodies as it should be, it will keep us smart, healthy, intuitive and full of life and energy. It is the foundation of true happiness and we need to respect ourselves enough to want to take care of our very fragile bodies and minds. We were given one life to live and by providing ourselves a healthy nutrient dense foundation we set ourselves up to succeed in love, education and life.
*What bad habit would you most like to change about yourself?
I tend to be most critical of myself, kids and the ones I love most. I would love to change that. I have high expectations for not only myself but the ones closest to me. When we set ourselves up with these expectations that are sometimes not met, we tend to be disappointed a lot. This disappointment allows for bad feelings to invade our thoughts which in turn can lead to fear or anxiety of the future. I would love to learn to live more in the present and allow ourselves to release the past and give the future and opportunity to fall into place. I do believe that if we truly try the very best on a daily basis then good things will happen in the future.
*Aside from motherhood/fatherhood and marriage what are you most proud of in your life?
I am most proud of finally figuring out the secret to keeping my excess weight off and finding stability in myself. I am also most proud of educating my husband and kids to do the same. I have since set up a very successful weight loss business called Get Fit With Gabi Rose and have helped hundreds of thousands do the same. I am working very hard on my book that will help millions more accomplish the same. This book will allow the public to see how you can not only save yourself, but the ones around you. We too often live in denial and don’t realize how our actions, whether it be eating an unhealthy diet, speaking poorly of others or not being true to ourselves neglects and hurts the ones we love most. Let’s turn things around and take control of our live and start a new lifestyle living today!
*When were you happiest?
I was happiest when I first got married and had nothing but solid and happy dreams before me. My husband and I had nothing but kind words and love for one another. Our love showed in the creation of our 4 beautiful children. Welcoming each of our 4 children into the world with love and open arms was truly the best and happiest time in my life.
