Fall has arrived and with its arrival come falling leaves, sweaters, apple cider and fall holidays. Big, shiny orange pumpkins and the sound of crunching leaves make for a fun Halloween. If you like the festivities associated with Halloween but your little one doesn’t like to be scared (I don’t either), don’t fret, there are options available.

I’ve compiled five must read Halloween books for the preschool set that will  have  your little one laughing and saying Hallo-Boo with their friends.

Trick or Treat Marley! Lovable and naughty puppy Marley, owned by author John Grogan, causes havoc as his family tries to prepare for their Halloween party.  “Will Marley’s family be able to have any Halloween fun with their naughty puppy around?”  Oh I hope so. Kids and dog lovers can’t resist this lovable puppies’ antics!

Pinkalicious: Pink or Treat! (Pinkalicious) by Victoria Kann Pinkalicious must turn into Pinkagirl to save Halloween in the face of a power outage.  Pink for Halloween? Why not? I love how Pinkalicous teaches her readers to problem solve!

From the author of the beloved Goodnight Moon.  “A fat little, round little, yellow little pumpkin dreams of growing up to be fierce and frightening, just like the scarecrow in the field.”  Sure to be a classic, you can’t help but cheer for the little pumpkin who thinks he’s fierce, but he’s not.

Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson.  When a witch and her cat lose items while flying on her broom, she makes friends along the way who want to help her; in exchange for a ride on her broom.  The clever story is enhanced by repetitive rhyming which young readers will delight in again and again. The friendship and teamwork make for a fun adventure!

Goodnight Goon: A Petrifying Parody by Michael Rex.  And speaking of the classic Goodnight Moon, this Halloween parody of the beloved classic will have little monsters laughing, rhyming, and wanting to hear this story again.  And again. And again. Especially when they should be going to bed!
