We would all love to win the jackpot in the lottery, but the chance of it happening is pretty remote. But we all win something at some point. Maybe you won a set of dishes while playing bingo at church. Maybe your number was called at a raffle, earning you a gift card. Even if all you did was pass your friend on Candy Crush Saga, it’s a feeling of gratification. If you’ve absolutely never won anything, keep living. Your time is coming.

Sometimes it feels like the world is conspiring against you. Sometimes the chips are down. Through it all, at least one person knows exactly who you are and loves you because of it and despite it. Whether it’s a parent, sibling, spouse, partner, child, or friend, you have experienced the love of another person. You are, in fact, experiencing it right now–even if you don’t see it.

We’re not talking about the I-told-you-he-would-break-up-with-you kind of right because that’s grossly obnoxious. We’re talking about getting the right question to the thousand-dollar answer on Jeopardy! or convincing your son that there are eight phases of the moon and not four. We are all 100% right about something sometimes.

It’s an awesome feeling to connect with another human being. It could be the kindling of a new friendship, a coworker who gives you a nod of encouragement during your big speech, or a stranger who sees you and smiles, but what’s better than being acknowledged and connecting with a person? It says that you matter.

The past. An unfulfilling job. A grudge. Toxic people. An ego. Material possessions. Fear. The need to be right all the time. Incorrect thinking. Aggressive behavior. Narrow-mindedness. A quick temper. Perhaps it took years, but you fought through and let something go that does more harm than good.

You were at the worst part of your life. Whatever happened, it was the most horrific thing you imagined. No, it was worse than what you imagined. You thought there was no point to carrying on. You lost friends and gained enemies. And yet, you picked yourself up. Slowly and surely, you recovered physically, mentally, and emotionally. Always remember how you won over yourself because you’ll do it again and again for the rest of your days.
