Hi, Everyone! With Rene hosting the 2013 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration in Orlando, we wanted to try something a little different. We asked the moms and dads heading down to the conference May 9-12 to answer our Life Lessons questions with a Disney twist, of course. Like the GEMS they are, they took to the task. We will be running their answers in the regular Life Lessons slot. Oh, and don’t worry. You still have a chance to share. Just email Ella and she will get the information to you. Now, we present our Disney Social Media Mom of the day, Wes.
Are you happy at the moment?
Yes, I am! I am truly blessed with a great family and friends as well as an incredible job. I also understand that happiness is an emotion, and emotions can change at a moment’s notice for me! That is why I am blessed to know that my joy never changes…no matter how I am feeling today. This makes a huge difference for me.
If you could go back and say anything to your 16-year-old self now – what would it be?
To take more risks! I have learned over the years that I should never be afraid of the word No! Why? Because the answer COULD be YES!
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned this year?
I have learned that the Lord is faithful in every circumstance. I have also learned that my family MUST be one of my biggest priorities!
What do you most want to achieve in the next 12 months?
I want to make a difference in the world by serving others – putting others first. My prayer is that I can set the example for my five kids, and they will start doing the same.
What’s your secret to happiness?
My secret to happiness is my relationship with the Lord. It’s amazing how faithful He has been in my life, and I KNOW His faithfulness will continue!
What one ritual or practice keeps you grounded?
I would definitely say reading the Bible is the one practice that keeps me grounded.
What’s your biggest regret?
My biggest regret is not making it a priority to spend time with my extended family in Georgia. I can make all the excuses in the world, but they are my family. We are all getting older, and I just can’t let time slip away!
What’s the most important lesson you’ve taught your kid(s)?
The most important lesson I have taught my kids is to try new things – to take risks of any size!
What bad habit would you most like to change about yourself?
I need to quit drinking Dr. Pepper…or at LEAST limit my consumption!
Aside from motherhood and marriage what are you most proud of in your life?
I LOVE seeing the students I worked with in the Student Ministry at our church doing such HUGE and awesome things in their lives! For example, I worked with several guys since their 7th grade year. Now, they are 26 years old working in ministry, going to medical school, and teaching high school drama!
Who is your favorite Disney princess and what has she taught you about parenting?
My favorite Disney Princess in Mulan! She has taught me about honoring MY parents and honoring my wife/kids, about taking risks (and teaching this to my kids), and about making family a huge priority!
What ten words best describe you?
Believer, encourager, fun-loving, risk-taker, dancer, loves others, (last, but not least) die-hard Disney FAN!
