Hi, Everyone! With Rene hosting the 2013 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration in Orlando, we wanted to try something a little different. We asked the moms and dads heading down to the conference May 8-12 to answer our Life Lessons questions with a Disney twist, of course. Like the GEMS they are, they took to the task. We will be running their answers in the regular Life Lessons slot. Oh, and don’t worry. You still have a chance to share. Just email Ella and she will get the information to you. Now, we present our Disney Social Media Mom of the day, Amiyrah.
Are you happy at the moment?
Absolutely! I feel that my life’s worth is being shown to me in the slightest ways lately, and I’m listening! To know what I’m here on this Earth for makes me very happy, and grateful.
If you could go back and say anything to your 16-year-old self now – what would it be?
All of those plans you’re making? See them as guidelines instead. Trust me, the plans will change, and change with a vengeance.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned this year?
You are worthy and you are awesome. Don’t let your mind tell you otherwise.
What do you most want to achieve in the next 12 months?
I would like to find at least two non-profit organizations that move me, and use my online influence to support them in any way that I can.
What’s your secret to happiness?
Give yourself time to be quiet and still. Even five minutes of reflection can bring on the happiness.
What one ritual or practice keeps you grounded?
Cleaning my mom’s house. Yes, I still do this even though I don’t live there, especially if she lets us have our kids’ birthday parties there. Sometimes I even scrub the toilets. Can’t get more grounded than that.
What’s your biggest regret?
Not realizing how unique I am earlier in life. I wasted so many years trying to be like others.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve taught your kid(s)?
It seems like a small lesson, but my kids say Sir and Ma’am. Here in the northeast, most kids don’t do this, but I’ve noticed that this small lesson in manners has created some heartwarming kids who now like to be respectful to everyone, not just their elders.
What bad habit would you most like to change about yourself?
My obsession with marshmallows…and peeps. My poor dentist sees me way too much.
Aside from motherhood and marriage what are you most proud of in your life?
Having almost 13 years in the United States Air Force. Besides marriage and the birth of my kids, it’s the one life event that has changed me forever.
Who is your favorite Disney princess and what has she taught you about parenting?
My all time favorite Disney Princess is Jasmine. I guess what Jasmine’s taught me about parenting is to let your kids be their own person instead of forcing them into the life I want them to live.
What ten words best describe you?
Dedicated, heartfelt, goofy, nerdy, loyal, blessed, happy, friendly, intriguing, and grateful!
