Valentine’s Day Edition: Gifts They’ll Love
The day of love is upon us. Here at Good Enough Mother we’ve tried to get you ready for amore by giving you tips on the worst gifts, candy treats, and even dinner for two; that’s our gift to you. However, there are a few other things that your love would just adore seeing today. So let me give you a list of gifts that will get them to love you more (I know…not possible, am I right?).
1. THE DIAMOND RING
Please notice I say “the” and not “a”. This gift was maybe months in the making. It says, “I will love you forever.”
2. A VACATION
The weather in some parts of the country this winter should make anyone want to head to destinations filled with sun and sand. Planning a trip for a few weeks from now is still very doable. Bon voyage!
3. A NICE MEAL
If they have high chairs high tail it out of there. You want this to be a childless event. Yes, we all love the kids, but taking care of the love you have for each other is a great lesson for them to learn, too.
This is not to be confused with diamonds. There are different levels. If you aren’t at a diamond level yet, you can still consider a bevy of other jewels. Necklaces, watches, ankle bracelets. Yes, you would get a point or two extra if they are bejeweled in diamonds, but that’s your call. Consider using a birthstone or if their birthstone is a color of which they are too fond then be whimsical. This is to show how much you care and pay attention.
5. SPA DAY
I suggest doing this together. There are some pretty pricey options out there for spas, but Valentine’s Day sees a lot of great couples deals. Relaxing and being pampered together is a great experience. Plus, there is a lot of quiet time during the treatments. There’s something totally romantic about being with your sweetie, silently enjoying being covered in mud.
Hopefully you know your partner’s favorite flower. Roses are a good, safe bet, but if you’ve been together for a few of these Valentine’s Days you can mix it up a bit. There are some wonderful flower choices – orchids, lilies, tulips – that might bring a smile to her face. Something extra sweet? Go to the florist and buy rose petals. February 15th should be a great day to get a deal on those (but call today and reserve them).
7. NEW BEAUTY PRODUCTS
…and a trip to her favorite makeup counter. If your sweetie is like me, they may have neglected to refresh their look with a new makeup palette. Taking her to get her look professionally revamped (before that fancy dinner is a perfect time, but may make the night a little costly) while adding a few new items to her makeup bag is a huge treat.
If traveling out of town is a little too aggressive for you either in budget or in time, maybe you can find a hotel in your city and just take a break from being in the house. Many people don’t “know” their city. Could be a museum or two you haven’t seen, a historical landmark, or even a concert coming to town that is can’t miss. Any of these trips is heightened by the fact that you got away from the familiar for a little while and explored – say it with me – together. Finding a hotel with an indoor, heated pool might be something you want to consider.
9. DANCE LESSONS
I know. I know! Don’t shoot the messenger. You want a great workout, boosted energy levels, and blood flowing on a day like Valentine’s (all of those things can increase libido). This is a chance for you guys to find your rhythm, get in synch and look deep into each other’s eyes. It doesn’t matter if it is ballroom or tango; effort is what matters here.
10. YOUR UNDYING LOVE
Yep. It may sound a little simple, but that’s what we really want today and the other 364, too. Now you can show it with a sweet card, a handwritten note, a memory box full of pics from the upcoming staycation, or just remembering to call her sometime during the day to ask her to be your Valentine. The thought of you thinking of her as special really will go a long way (but maybe just maybe you get a couple of flowers).
