How about a little Jill Scott to start this marvelous Monday? Yep, it’s time for a little Monday Morning Motivation and we’re kicking it off with Jill Scott. I always loved her and her throaty vocals and the lyrics… talk about deep. But this song is particularly fitting, perfect because, when I give speeches, a lot of people ask me about this.
So how do you handle the hate? Try these three things…
I’M SORRY, DID YOU SAY
SOMETHING?
It works equally well in kids as it does in adults. It’s basic behavioral psychology; you want to extinguish a bad behavior? Ignore it. When people start spewing venom, just smile and keep it moving.
SEE IT FOR WHAT IT IS
Ah yes, the ol’ green-eyed monster. Most people are too busy living their lives, trying to make ends meet, caring for families, etc to be bothered with whatever it is you are doing. Unless you are doing something that’s really PISSING them off. Are you close to your goal? Are you making headway in your industry? Are the bosses looking at you for a promotion? The higher you climb, the better target you make. Get ready.
USE IT AS FUEL
I’m going to let you in on a little secret. You know what my haters (yeah I have them) do for me? They make me smile. Why? Because they are rocket fuel, reminding me that you can’t please everyone. All the emotion you elicit from people is not going to be positive. Be happy they’re talking about you at all! Oh and make sure they spell your name right.
Now get out there and make it happen!
