Guest Posting: Time For Change… The 5 Jewelry Must-Haves For Fall

Okay guys, don’t tune out just yet; I promise there is something here for you too, even if it means knowing just what to get that special person in your life. Back when I had that big gig, I used to have someone style me every day. That duty falls directly to me now and if it’s not yoga pants it’s not happening. Yep, these days, I’ve been a little lost in the fashion forest.

But as you know I’ve been doing more TV lately and as a result need a little bit more help. Enter Tara Mikolay of Desires By Mikolay with some ideas on how to transition from summer to fall with just the right jewelry pieces. Take it away, Tara..

As we officially approach the end of summer and feel the crisp morning nip in the air, we immediately jump into cozy sweaters and fall boots. We forget that in September we can experience some lovely weather that helps us transition from our Summer wardrobe into our Fall one.

That same principle applies to our jewelry wardrobe! The pieces you have been living in all summer long still have a place in your look for early Fall.

Your favorite gold hoop earrings or that bold watch, work well against the deeper color palettes of Fall.  So here they are, my top 5 picks for jewelry that will transition you from Summer to Fall…

The good news is that bold jewelry is a Fall 2012 jewelry trend. Remember that cuff bracelet that you have been wearing with your summer maxi dress? Well guess what? It looks amazing worn over a thin long sleeve cashmere sweater or a silky dress. These from cuff bracelets are a bestseller, combining texture with metal creates a sophisticated yet forward look.

Stylists are showing cuffs worn this way. Often paired with a great hoop earring…which leads me to #2…

We all have them…A basic hoop earring is a jewelry wardrobe staple. The key for Fall fashion is to go big! 1 1/2-2” diameter will give you that effortless but chic look. While in summer I suggest hoop earrings paired with lots of layered necklaces, for Fall I say skip the necklaces and pair it with a great mock turtleneck sweater instead. Kind of like an updated Audrey Hepburn look.

It does not matter if you choose white, yellow or rose gold…with diamonds or without…classic or bohemian…the actual type of hoop is up to your personal taste.

The ultimate in transitional jewelry the long layering necklace looks great worn over a t-shirt or that little black dress. Extremely versatile, these necklaces are super fresh & fashionable. My favorite piece for Fall is this oversize key necklace.

Love this look with a black sheath dress for work or a boyfriend blazer, jeans and t-shirt for date night…

Think leather is just for summer? Wrong! Leather is a fabulous choice for Fall and looks especially good against this Fall’s IT color-burnt orange. We have always, and will always, love our Chan Luu wrap bracelets. This casual chic look can be elevated by layering them with a chunky link bracelet or your classic diamond tennis bracelet.

This eclectic styling will make you fall in love all over again with your Chan Luu and get you to wear your fancier jewelry more casually.

Is your style a bit more classic then unconventional? Try these bracelets by Vita Frede. Made in Italy from the finest of leather it is the refined version of a Chan Luu.

This Summer you ditched your Diamonds for plain gold rings…Able to withstand typically Summer wear and tear, they are easy to wear and stylish. Just because the bright rays of Summer are over does not mean you should ditch the bold rings. Classic and always in vogue is the Cigar Band ring. Featured in numerous editorial pieces, its appeal lies in its simplicity.

Embrace the season and look good while doing it!
