The Mouse and Me: The Christening Of The Disney Fantasy

“May God bless her and all who sail on her.” And with that, amid the glitz and glitter, Mariah Carey christened The Disney Fantasy, the fourth ship in the Disney Fleet.  And man is she gorgeous! The ship and Mariah.

The Fantasy is the sister ship to The Disney Dream, which I had the distinct pleasure of sailing on last year. But there are some subtle differences. Whereas the Dream is more Art Deco, a throwback to the Golden age, the Fantasy is Art Nouveau, with sleek and elegant designs. On the Dream, guests are greeted by Admiral Donald in the lobby, on the Fantasy, it’s Mademoiselle Minnie doing the honors. But all the ships in the Disney fleet are manned by a spectacular group of people who know how to maximize the guest experience and the christening of this ship was no different.

Last week, lil’ ol’ Good Enough Mother took in a spectacular show by Neil Patrick Harris and a group of special guests, right there in The Walt Disney Theater.

NHP was quite entertaining as host and Disney chairmen and CEO Bob Iger was a good sport through it all, even joking that the racier quips (and there were a few) had not been Disney approved. Side note, I ran into Iger in the hallway of the Fantasy the day before. In my shock I mumbled , “That’s friggin’ Bob Iger”, who laughed and posed for a picture.

After the official champagne toast we all made out way to Animator’s Palate, one of the Fantasy’s six dining rooms (more on that in the coming days) where we had an amazing sample of the food.

We had a chance to see the show in Animator’s palate that involves what you drew on your placemat, coming to life on the screen; I’ll tell you more about that in the coming days too.

All in all, The Fantasy is a magnificent vessel and I’m excited to report, the kids and I will be on board, checking it all out when she heads out of Port Canaveral, Florida at the end of this month!  Don’t forget to follow me on Facebook and Twitter and I’ll be Touting little snippets from the trip too; you can send me your questions to via Tout.

Hey, it’s a tough job okay? I’m doing it for you!

*Special thanks to Shannon Lanier for lending me a few of these photos!

**Disclosure: Disney paid for Team GEM to sail on The Fantasy. Of course all opinions are my own and you know I’m gonna give it to you straight!

Combing the aisles at Target in search of the best deal on Cheerios, it hit Rene Syler like the stench of a dirty diaper on a hot summer’s day. Not only is perfection overrated its utterly impossible! Suddenly empowered, she figuratively donned her cape, scooped up another taco kit for dinner and Good Enough Mother was born.
