Say hello to Lashell who’s giving us a glimpse into her head and heart as part of today’s Life Lessons. As you’ll see family and faith are what keep her going and grounded. Enjoy her responses and remember if you want to take part, drop us a line!

Are you happy at the moment?

I want to be…

If you could go back and say anything to your 16-year-old self now – what would it be?

The world is for you to see….GO SEE IT, take pictures, and BE! You only get one life.  Someone very dear to me always says : “God gives you a life; you provide the lifestyle.”

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned this year?

Gold is tried by fire.  So, going through a battery of fiery tests is necessary.

What do you most want to achieve in the next 12 months?

To go from being the jack of many trades to being the master of what I truly love…something that came while I was going through financial fire and experienced great hurt: real estate. I am a real estate junkie.

What’s your secret to happiness?

Be honest with God and myself because to be trustworthy means everything to me. Trust is a HUGE part of me, so I don’t take it lightly.

What one ritual or practice keeps you grounded?

My prayer life. I talk to God like I’m talking to someone in a room. My relationship with God is what has kept me from mentally, emotionally, and physically shutting down. I guess going through hell (and some of that hell I brought on myself) made me have a close relationship with God.  And the end of the day, He’s all I have.

What’s your biggest regret?

I regret that I let all the negative people/things that happened to me play a bigger role in my life than they deserve.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve taught your kid(s)?

Since I don’t have kids of my own, I’ll use my students. I’ve told my students that a great student and a flunking student share a commonality: they both FOCUS.  The difference is what they are focusing on.  Get my kids thinking every time.

What bad habit would you most like to change about yourself?
Being fearful and indecisive.  It’s really funny, I used to be a decisive person, but I allowed some of my recent life experiences turn me into a fearful and indecisive person…regarding major decisions in my life (some I have to make this week). :-/
Aside from motherhood and marriage what are you most proud of in your life?
I’m not a mother or a wife.  If I am blessed to be both, it would be solely the Lord’s doing.
When were you happiest?
When I’m with those who really all of me and show it, my mom and sister.  I adore my big sister.  We three are as thick as thieves.
What ten words best describe you?
Giving, kind, TALL, trustworthy, private, alert, hardworking, funny, loving, feisty, random.  LOL!!

She makes no qualms about this: She loves God, family, and her dog. She is not yet a wife or a mother. She’s a daughter who has worked hard to be a good one.
