Survivor Stories: Teena McMills

Tom McCormick, Teena McMills with Chef Mansour Gorji and Dr. Laidley

Hi everyone and welcome to one of my favorite times of the year. Yes, it’s Fall but more than that, it’s October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness month. As you know, this is something that is very important to me, being the daughter of not one but two, breast cancer survivors and having had my own mastectomy.

So throughout the month, we’re going to be highlighting the stories of survival. If you are a survivor and would like to tell your story, email me at We’re going to start off with Teena’s story. After experiencing the death of her husband and raising her kids on her own, Teena was embarking on what was sure to be a happier phase of her life, having found new love. And then everything was turned upside.

Combing the aisles at Target in search of the best deal on Cheerios, it hit Rene Syler like the stench of a dirty diaper on a hot summer’s day.
