Two in a row for Rene’s Remote! It’s gonna be a big Sunday TV night for Good Enough Mother.
The funny thing is I don’t really watch a lot of TV, which is odd for someone who has made her living in the medium for so long (TV news, not entertainment). But hats off to Showtime who have two hot new shows airing tonight that I’m going to have to plant my ample backside in a chair to watch. Following the premiere of Matt Le Blanc’s Episodes comes Shameless, which, just like the earlier show, is a British import. What is it with those Brits and great TV? (my producer Richard made me say that!)
Shameless is the story of the Gallagher clan, led by the perpetually drunk dad Frank (played by the marvelous William H. Macy). Frank has a gaggle of kids living loose while it’s actually his oldest daughter, Fiona (Emmy Rossum) who is the glue that holds the family together. Here’s a quick look:

Okay, I love that the family and father are so unconventional and it looks like there are more than a few moments of hilarity. But I think good TV (and I’m just your average viewer, not an expert by any means) also has a message in the madness and I’m curious as to what this one is. The show has sparked plenty of controversy in the UK and looks set to do the same here. Put it this way – one of Frank’s sons is a gay teen who’s having an affair with his married Muslim boss! The show definitely appeals to the envelope-pushing rebel in me…
But what do you think? Will you watch Shameless or is it a little too much grit and realism for you? Let us know your thoughts both before AND after the episode airs…
