Putting The “Fun” In Dysfunction
Good Enough Mother had to smile this morning. See I was perusing USA TODAY when I came across this article on family dynamics and how they impact a child’s success in school.
The piece outlines three distinct types of families: cohesive, disengaged and enmeshed. In my mind, I see my family as the cohesive type, just like the Huxtables on The Cosby Show, with the warm parents who, no matter how busy, always have time to listen to the kids and turn every opportunity into a teachable moment.
Listen to that nice voice that Mama Huxtable uses when talking to Theo about his financial practices.
However, I’m honest enough to admit, we’re probably closer to the Barone family of Everybody loves Raymond fame.
Yes, I am Marie Barone.
We work a lot, tend to be stressed out and I’m not proud to admit, I yell more than I probably should. That said my kids know I love them, even if I am not adept at showing at times.
What kind of family do you think you are? Now, be truthful, what kind of family are you REALLY?
