Rene' I am a new mom (15 month old daughter) and I feel completely out of my element. I miss a career, but am torn between work and mothering. How do you do it and do you have any advice? I feel like I would be happer and maybe even a better mom if I had somewhat of a career that spans beyond diapers and sippy cups!

Hi Rene',

I love the advice you gave Julie. I'm a witness. I have 3 girls my oldest is 21 a college student and I have twins ages 12 as of 2/23/08.

I love my children dearly, however, I also love myself and I'm teaching,supporting, and nuturing them to be productive citizens and pray that my daughters will be WONDERFUL GEMS one day.

Hey Julie:

I totally get your point. I know for me, I can only be the best for my children and husband if I also give myself something. I need to feed my soul through work and social contacts (from work).

You're not going to find me bashing daycare because I think kids need to learn they aren't the center of the universe. My kids went to daycare and I think it was a wonderful primer for school. They made friends, learned group behavior and a wonderful concept called sharing.

If you can't bear to do it 5 days a week, start slowly with 2 or 3. Maybe a Mommy's Day Out program at a local church. Your baby will be fine.

Don't let being a parent stunt your growth as a person.

Great Book!

I bought this as a gift for my best friend who is a new mommy-to-be.

What a great idea for a book! There is so much pressure out there for women to be perfect-the perfect employee, the perfect wife, the perfect daughter, the perfect friend, and the perfect mother. This book explains that it's ok to have your own style. Be sure and read the last chapter!
