Rene, I just finished your book, and it was a well-needed shot in the arm. I'm a single mother in a stressful job (which I still enjoy despite the pressures), and need to teach myself over and over the idea of "good enough." I love the mantra, "I DON'T CARE."

I've had to pull that one out when attending birthday parties where the other kids bring these great, expensive gifts, and little Savannah has something basic and not so expensive. I let her pick out her own clothes, and she's attached to this "sweatuh shrrrrug" that's now in tatters. She feels beautiful in it, but I have to fight my feeling of shame because money's tight, and I have nicer clothes for her which I spent good money on, and she rejects! She goes to school with this rag, and looks poor! If we were rich, it would feel funnier... but I DON'T CARE. Her classmates love her, and she's fine, and safe. If the the dreaded supermoms think I want to dress her that way... I don't care.

There's so much more, but anyway. I really appreciate your taking the effort to write a book when you're so busy. I was all teared up through the last chapter, and you're description of that numb dread feeling you had when you went to that meeting with the early show exec knocked the wind out of me. I will keep a hopeful eye out for you enjoying more and other successes.

I like it, really a good website. Rene, I am a good-enough mother. Despite Beestar.org, I also often visit your website. It's a fantastic place for parents to get together.

Wow, i really need to check the message board more often!

As for dealing with the "what's for dinner" question, one of my favorites, and a true crowd pleaser, tacos. I just prepare the meat according to the recipe, add the packaged taco seasoning, then put all the fixings out on the table and let them make their own.
Soft tortillas and hard shells also adds variety. Very easy.

With the leftover meat, I make something I call Frito Pie. Take the taco meat, heat in microwave, throw some cheese on the meat and crumble some fritos over the top. Not the healthiest, but hits the spot in a pinch.

It's more difficult for me now than ever before because our house is undergoing a major renovation and we have no kitchen. But when we do, I am going to learn how to cook. Yeah, right.

Rene,
Just found your website. I love your book. I am a stay at home mom of a 14-year old girl and a 10-year old boy so as you know it's going to take me awile to finish it. So far my favorite part is the three words that scare you to death " what's for dinner." Can't wait for those great, easy recipes that will help solve this problem.

Hi Rene Mom here your mom(smile) Just wanted to let you know that I know of at least one father that has read and loved your book. He said that he brought his daughter and son up by himself, and is thrilled with the idea that it was done good enough. God Bless mom

You are missed, Rene, on TES. I see you're keeping busy! Congrats on the book and the tour. Keep up the great work, and thanks for being so public about difficult decisions in your life.

Best,

Rene,

I'm not a mother, but I am a good-enough father and have been a fan of yours since you started on TES. I'm really glad that you have launched your own website so that I can keep up with your appearances. I wish you much success and look forward to seeing you on television more regularly.

God bless you,
O

Great Book!

I bought this as a gift for my best friend who is a new mommy-to-be.

What a great idea for a book! There is so much pressure out there for women to be perfect-the perfect employee, the perfect wife, the perfect daughter, the perfect friend, and the perfect mother. This book explains that it's ok to have your own style. Be sure and read the last chapter!
