Home > Breast Cancer Breast Cancer I have the BRCA 2 cancer gene. Breast cancer is heavy in my dad's side of the family. All but 1 female has gotten breast cancer and as young as 30. My dad passed away a little over a year ago from Breast Cancer. I went through the same preventative surgery by having a double masectomy and also had a hysterectomy. My chances of ovarian cancer was higher as well and I was done with having kids so I went ahead and did that preventative surgery. It took me about 4 years to decide if I should do the surgery. I am still struggling with the finishing touches. I had my double masectomy in June 06. I am hoping by December 07 to be complete on this path of my road. I understand Rene's situation and I am glad that stories like this are out in the public and others (men and women) are aware of the possibilites.
