The GEM Debate: To iPhone Or To Galaxy…
That Is The Smartphone Question
I need a new phone.
Now I know you’re thinking, “First world problems..” but I can assure you, it’s much more than that. This post, which is less like a debate and more like information gathering (with a little therapy for good measure) is about being a creature of habit, having relationships with technology and knowing when and how to break-up. Hang with me a moment.
I’ve been an iPhone 4s user for just about two years now. Before that, I had a Blackberry for four years. It took quite a lot of fretting and stewing before I made the decision to switch over to the iPhone because, although my Blackberry annoyed me quite frequently, I knew how to fix it when it started acting up. But a few days later, I was in love with the iPhone.
Which brings me to this point: it appears the love (at least in part) is gone between the iPhone and me based on two major complaints.
The first thing is when I’m on the phone talking to someone and I have it between my shoulder and my cheek, I am constantly muting myself without even realizing it. Everyone I talk to has gotten used to it so they know to just say something and I’ll fix it. For that reason, I often keep it on speaker when I’m talking so I can avoid the issue altogether. Sometimes that just doesn’t fly though…little ears and all.
The next issue, and a bit more serious, is that the “add call” button is right under the mute button, well, at least it was before I updated to iOS 7. So, I’m just on the phone having a nice little conversation with #sassyhubby when I suddenly hear ringing as if I’m calling someone! I pull the phone off my shoulder and; low and behold! I’ve conferenced in some random person from my address book who may or may not live on the West coast where it’s THREE HOURS EARLIER! Are you kidding me!?!!
So…this brings me to today’s debate, er information gathering. It’s time for me to upgrade my phone. I have so many friends who absolutely LOVE their iPhones; I’m a big Apple fan myself. But I have just as many friends who are Galaxy fans. In fact, #sassyhubby just got his new Samsung Galaxy [using my upgrade, I might add] yesterday and absolutely loves it.
I think it’s too big and far too complicated. But is it more than that? Am I just unwilling to commit to a new system, even though the old one isn’t working for me? And how many muted or calls with strangers is it going to take to change my mind.
Yeah it’s a little tongue-in-cheek but seriously.. do you Apple or Galaxy or Droid? What does it take for you to change something that you love?
Take the poll and leave me a comment as to which one you use and why to help me make a decision!
