The GEM Debate:
Will You Turn Off Your Cell Phone For THIS? (VIDEO)
Ahhh…You sit down in a movie theater and, as soon as you get your popcorn situated and your kids counted, you hear the annoying buzz of someone getting a text message. It’s pretty much the only sound you hear for the. entire. movie. Oh, yeah, and the steam coming out of your ears. Well, the Cinemark theater chain has an app – CineMode – for that. Prior to the movie a message appears on the movie screen to alert you to turn off your smartphone (via an app installed on the phone), and when the movie ends it tells you you can turn it back on. If you are a good movie-goer in the middle and don’t touch your phone, you get discount coupons. Woo hoo!
I agree this is great outside-the-box thinking. They saw a need and they have basically filled it. However, there are people in this world who are just so addicted to their phones they can’t be without them. No amount of coupons, cash, or any other type of incentive will stand in the way of their texting or neglecting to change the ringer to silent. Not even them spending ridiculous amounts of money to see a movie during which they will only casually glance at the screen will stay their conversations. I mean isn’t the real incentive the fact that you go to movies to get away from it all? Escape into another world and leave your cares behind so to speak? Nope. For some it is just another way to get a little fresh air in between LOL’s and
s. This app sounds like the perfect gift for the avid movie goer who, if I may use a term we haven’t heard in a week or so, is on the fence. They usually turn off their phone and attempt to not answer it, but the siren song lures them to pick it up just to annoyingly stage whisper to the other party “I can’t talk. I’m in the movies.”
So what do you think? Would you be inclined to try their app? Do you or someone you know need the incentives? Let us hear ya!
Here’s a few pre-app pleas to stop the chatter.
