Ask The Good Enough Guys:
Would You Let Your Best Friend Online Date?
This week it is all about dating. Some women go all out to find good men, but like the perfect lipliner, they elude us. Well, this week I found this article about online dating. It is 2012 and as our social world becomes more virtual is it now more acceptable to seek your mate online? So we asked our Good Enough Guys if they would advise their best friend to find true love on one of these sites.
MIKE MCGINLEY
Online dating is a joke, and frankly I think it’s nuts! I would advise my friend to reach out to their family and other friends to tell them they are looking to meet someone meaningful and weigh the options based off of recommendations from friends and family who know them.
Online dating, in my estimation, is DUMB!
MARK ANDROVICH
I’ve known many people who have found permanent relationships via dating websites, so I’m not going to rule them out as a potential tool. That said, I think that most online dating sites are no different than online poker. Remember, the “house” always wins; the site gets paid whether you find a match or not. Considering the expense, you may be better off paying your best friends for “referrals.” They know you better, and can talk you up to the potential date, more than any website.
DAVE MANOUCHERI
I don’t think I could date online. That’s not to belittle those who do. I have two good friends – one engaged, one married for years – who met their significant other online. I, however, don’t think I could do it. If it’s possible, it is better to be friends with someone and love them. Knowing you connect with someone already and letting them see the most intimate parts of your psyche is very, very delicate. Knowing you really like that person as well as love them is a map to a healthy relationship.
TREY BURLEY
After a bit of hesitation, yes, I would trust it to a friend, but it would not be my main date-setting plan. A couple of dates set up by my friends would be nice and entertaining. However, at the end of the day I’d leave it up to me to find who I date, trust my gut and get out and meet people.

Ah…the votes are in and we’ve got quite a bit of mixed reaction. Full disclosure: I almost married a man I met online. We were part of a group so I knew his friends and there was some build up like Dave said prior to our actual one-on-one interactions. I think it is the “cold open” that scares us, and how much courage do you need to go somewhere and virtually scream, “I need someone!” Something that is even hard to say to ourselves in the mirror. So take from it what you will, be safe, and happy dating!
